What’s in your cup?
One thing I have noticed recently on social media is pictures of people with cups of “drink” in their hands. I wrestle sometimes with the why. Why are these pictures being posted?
Then it makes me think to myself, what am I wanting to display that is in my cup?
I think of the old hymn Fill My Cup. The lyrics say:
Like the woman at the well, I was seeking
For things that could not satisfy.
And then I heard my Savior speaking—
“Draw from My well that never shall run dry.”Fill my cup, Lord;
I lift it up Lord;
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.
Bread of Heaven, feed me till I want no more.
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole.There are millions in this world who are seeking
For pleasures earthly goods afford.
But none can match the wondrous treasure
That I find in Jesus Christ my Lord.So my brother if the things that this world gives you
Leave hungers that won’t pass away,
My blessed Lord will come and save you
If you kneel to Him and humbly pray.Written by Richard E. Blanchard Sr.
Fellow leaders, let us make sure that the number one thing we represent to an onlooking world is a life that is being poured into by the Living Waters that never run dry. Let us never lose sight that in our efforts to reach the lost world we are still uniquely other than the world.
As Paul says right before the above referenced passage, let us pay attention to how we walk – not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of our time (Ephesians 5:15); and realize that we must be filled with His Spirit as Paul admonishes the church in Ephesus (Ephesians 5:18).
Let us always be living with a conscious understanding of the reality of our genuine dehydration that necessitates more of Him; ever living with a continuing growing thirst for more of His Spirit to fill us.
The longer I serve Him, the more I know what is in me (that which is in my flesh) will not sustain what He has called me to do. I must decrease. I need Him to fill me up.
What about you?
