Everyone – male or female, pastor, children’s worker, youth pastor, executive pastor – whatever leadership role you have, I just wanted to remind you that every Christian leader is first and foremost a Christian follower.

Every one of us is called primarily to be WITH Jesus, to follow Jesus, to be disciples before we are leaders.

The best leaders in the Church are always the closest followers.

That doesn’t mean that the best leaders are always the most successful in the ministry. I think there’s a good argument that could be said that, by earthly standards, some of the best leaders did not have the greatest following. As a matter of fact, Jesus himself, if you didn’t take the long view and look two millennia later, you’d still be wondering if He was really that effective.

Look at the apostle Paul. These guys died for their faith. By earthly standards, things didn’t go that well. But the reality is, we want to look at things from a Biblical world view. In a Biblical world view, the best leaders are the closest followers.

Those who have something to say or those who spend time with the Lord, those who draw close to the Lord, those who know His voice, those who get close to Him, they are ultimately those who have something to offer.
