God Is Still Here
Have you ever contemplated the virgin birth? Mary mothering the KING of kings, the Messiah, the Savior.
Sometimes in our Christmas rush we don’t think about the astounding truth of that union.
Mary, the young teenage virgin. A woman taught to faithfully look for the Messiah. And God – holy, holy, holy God – massive beyond any description, eternal, glorious beyond a human even being able to look upon Him, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent God forever joined together with humanity.
A real union by the second member of the Trinity in what the Bible calls “the fullness of time.”
“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.” Galatians 4:4-5
The troubled and broken world would no longer need to wait. God was present and at work on earth. He chose Mary. And God chose a place and a time that was right to change everything.
Here is what requires deep pondering.
Without losing anything of who He is, God took His very essence and shrunk it down into a tiny seed and implanted it into the womb of Mary. Our Savior was now conceived as fully God and fully human.
Spend some time reflecting upon this truth of the hypostatic union, God becoming human flesh, and what that means.
For unto us in the city of David a Savior has been born. He is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11). Can you sing with the angels on that night of our Savior’s birth? Glory to God in the Highest! Glory to God on earth. Peace to those on whom His favor rests (Luke 2:14).
God is still here and still at work in the midst of our troubles. Catch that truth and though, like Mary, your world may be turned upside-down, you will have peace and joy.
Merry Christmas!
